Reviews have been steadily coming in since our release in October and the consensus is, we've got a winner on our hands! In addition to the great reviews, one publication (The Art Music Lounge) gave Bardfly its 'What a Performance!’ award for the best classical and jazz CDs of the year. And Bardfly has been getting radio play on a few stations, including L.A.'s own KJZZ (the #1 jazz station in the U.S.).

Feste "The Bardfly" Johnson (whose alter ego is Actor-Singer-Songwriter John Allee) has been working up some tunes cobbled together from bits of string, a used hymnal with a "Property of Stratford Unified" stamp on the inside cover, and a few scraps of paper of indeterminate origin (most likely an unpaid utility bill, or the discarded remnants of a First Folio). Blues, ballads, hymns, recitations, and swingin' ditties are all on the bar menu.

Continuing his streak of plays with 'man' in the title, John is opening in the Antaeus Theatre Company production of "The Cripple of Inishmaan" penned by one of the most acclaimed living Irish playwrights, Martin McDonagh, who also wrote and directed last year's multiple Academy Award nominee "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri."

"33 Variations" took home a total of four Ovation Awards at the 28th Annual show (held at the Theatre at the Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles) for Best Production of a Play (Intimate Theatre), Best Director of a Play, Best Scenic Design (Intimate Theatre), and Best Lighting Design (Intimate Theatre). Awards season is upon us and John has received nominations for Best Acting Ensemble for "33 Variations" from the L.A. Stage Alliance Ovation Awards and the Sage Awards. He is also a double Robby Award nominee for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama ("33 Variations") and Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy ("The Man Who Came to Dinner"). Additionally, "33 Variations" won four Ovations, including Best Production of a Play (Intimate Theatre) and has received an L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award nomination for Best Production.

In honor of the upcoming production of “Les Liaisons Dangereuses”, the Antaeus Company (of which John is a member) is putting on a music night - "The Antaeus Cabaret Soirée" on Saturday, September 30th at 8pm. A mélange of artists, including French musical acts, clowns, improv, accordion, et Jean au piano.
